Hi, all! We never thought the day would come where I filmed a second episode of my Beer Knits Podcast 2020 revival, did we?
The incessant lockdown is full of surprises, I guess.
This week, I kept things short and sweet thanks to almost-monogamous knitting (or crocheting, as is the case of my C2C blanket) but since I had to do my hair and makeup for a work video, I figured now would be the time to grace you with my virtual presence.
Anyway, here are links to the patterns I mentioned in this episode in case you find yourself with spare time over the coming weeks and want to partake:
Patterns
Heel Toe Do Si Do socks by The Crazy Sock Lady - I’m working these toe-up so the pattern doesn’t look exactly like the prototype. I refuse to knit socks top-down, and I refuse even more to knit them top-down when it’s my first pair of socks for someone else.
C2C Blanket - I’m not using this specific pattern so I’m linking it for your own knowledge in case it’s a new stitch you want to pick up. I learned how to do the box stitch years and years ago and it’s my go-to for giant blankets.
Starflake - For as long as it’s taking me to trudge through the brioche section (which I love but it feels tedious because I can’t focus), I’m really enjoying myself and can’t wait to wear it. I think I’ve been prolonging it because I don’t feel like winding another cake of the glitter yarn, to be honest. Winding yarn is boring and I hate it. I will pay you $5 to come wind my cakes. Inquire within.
Because I have no idea how to run these things anymore, I forgot to mention that I made my boyfriend an adorable elephant magnet for Easter. This was the first major holiday we spent apart from our families thanks to this COVID-19 stuff so I wanted to make sure he had a little something to pull out of an Easter egg - especially since he recently spoiled me with end-times jewelry from my favorite designer. I made it with leftover Patons Kroy yarn from his socks because I thought that would be cute (like me!) and then hot-glued it to a magnet I found in my craft room stash. It’s currently living on my fridge until we go back to normalcy where we have separate abodes and it makes me giggle. It’s so widdle.
Otherwise, life is still going pretty well. Work is busier than ever, although I feel like I’m in a good spot after two weeks of major stress (which won’t last long, if previous experience is any indication). We did manage to have a nice Easter thanks to my parents getting us a ham dinner for takeout, which we ate on my never-before-used Lenox china I’ve had sitting in a hutch for 11 years. And, ya know, we’re just trying to keep things as normal as we can while living through the apocalypse so no big deal.
Some girlfriends and I might be doing a virtual knit night and a movie tomorrow night, which I’m looking forward to, and I’ve still got plenty of human interaction to keep me busy. But y'’all - everyone is so excited about Zoom that it feels like the world has gone Zoom crazy. And I’m sitting here like… Zoom is literally my life day-in and day-out and now I have to use it at night, too? I read an article about video conferencing fatigue and nodded my face off. For now, it’s a good substitute for in-person contact but when your days are already spent talking to people on conference calls, you literally want to rip your hair out at the end of the day.
But that’s fine and, really, it’s a good problem to have. I guess it just means I’m a pro - and I’ve spent a decent amount of time teaching people how to share the meeting link instead of actual credentials so we don’t spend the first ten minutes of every call fat-fingering our keypads. Finally, I am useful.
I hope everyone is surviving as best you can, even if Zoom makes you want to scream and you can’t fit into your pants anymore thanks to the QuaranFifteen.
In the meantime, I’m also…
