I am once again asking for someone to restrict my access to SALs.
I can’t stop. I think I’ve signed up for something like five Halloween SALs this year and I’m not sure how many Christmas ones. I probably won’t even get to those until next year, considering I need to get started on all my Christmas gifts for the season, but I guess I’ll be more than occupied in 2023. I also guess my goal is to litter our walls with Halloween art.
That’s apparently going to take some time - not just because I’ve got a ton of these going, but because my latest start (this Halloween Crystal Ball from Tiny Modernist) is going to take approximately forever for me to finish thanks to the fabric I chose.
They recommended 32ct linen and… well… here we are, with a piece that I keep telling people has more mistakes in it than my first marriage.
I’m absolutely getting better, so at least there’s that, but I have such difficulty finding the squares I need to stitch into. I’ve been stitching in hand lately, too, but that has proven to be a better option with Aida for me. So back into the hoop this project went once I realized it would be all sorts of FUBAR if I kept going at the rate I was.
Anyway, the second clue of this guy is already out, and it’s almost time for the third (and I think final) clue to be released, so we’ll see if I even get there before Halloween. I’ve got at least two stitches I need to start for Christmas, not to mention other crafts, as well as those Christmas SALs.
That means I’m probably not going to finish the Under the Sea SAL I’ve started, either, but I suppose it’s possible. I’m working my way through a Mill Hill kit as we speak and want to have that finished before I leave for my work trip next week, so I might revisit that soon… except that I also have the Touch of Magic Halloween SAL to catch up on.
So like I said… I need to stop and it might take an intervention. Any takers?
I recently purchased another HAED materials pack and thought y’all might want to join me as I unpackaged all the goodies (there are a LOT, so buckle up).
This is my second kit and I’m too intimidated to start it, so I guess we’ll see what happens. The first kit I bought might be the love of my life, as it’s based on artwork by Jonathon Earl Bowser that I was obsessed with as a young teenager (I even drew a replica in my Saturday art class), so I might “practice” cross country stitching and parking with my new kit and see where that road takes me - then maybe, in ten years, I can make my first one perfectly.
Have you tried a HAED? How did you get over your imposter syndrome and actually start?
If you know me at all, then you’ll know I’m obsessed with the adorable designs that The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery pumps out. I buy their patterns and kits like I don’t need the expendable income. Most recently, I signed up for their “Under the Sea” SAL that I’m miraculously keeping up with, having completed Clue 2 during my week of FUNemployment between jobs.
They also have a super cute seasonal collection featuring cats, so when they announced they were going to release a similar collection with dogs, I couldn’t pass up the chance to flush more money down the proverbial toilet.
The first pattern in their new series is called “Happy Spring” and includes a rain hat-bedecked pup who’s trying to avoid April showers. It’s so colorful and happy that there’s no way you can make this and not feel happy. In fact, I started it the night before Easter so I’d have something springy to work on while visiting family for the day.
The original design is stitched on white fabric, but I really like this blue hand-dyed linen I bought from Dove Stitch that I’m hoping to use for each pattern in the series, which will continue to be released throughout the year.
I had to make a few color substitutions since I don’t have a full DMC collection, although I’m working diligently on making that a thing, but I think it looks good regardless. For example, I think the rain drops are supposed to be a bit bluer than what I ended up with, but I like them as-is.
Let me know what you think and if you’ve stitched any TFPS patterns in the past!
